Yi Shan Mo, Xiang Chun Lin, Raw Puer, 2017 Early Spring Ancient Tree Tea, 200g cake
Yi Shan Mo, Xiang Chun Lin, Raw Puer, 2017 Early Spring Ancient Tree Tea, 200g cake,"Xiang Chun Lin” is the name of an area behind Yi Shan Mo, north of Yiwu. The tea gardens are at an altitude of 1500 to 1600 metres.
Like most tea gardens in this area the trees have been cut back at some point in the past and then left to grow again. The environment in these tea gardens is good, with plenty of plant diversity.
In the Yiwu area Yi Shan Mo tea is noted for its character which is rather different from other teas. It has a delicate 'ru kou' with good viscosity. The 'hui gan' is quick and the 'sheng jin' not bad. It has a bright yellow broth and a nectar-like fragrance. The 'bei xiang' is also decent. It is not particularly strong in flavour, being more delicate and sweet, but none-the-less has decent thickness and can be steeped many times.
All Puer teas are hand picked, fired and rolled, or sometimes machine rolled and sun dried. Cakes are stone pressed.
Please be aware that because raw Puer tea is a 'post-fermented' tea it is in a process of continual change: as it ages, but also from season to season and even day to day, so the description here is a snapshot of the tea's quality and character, which should not vary significantly, but which none-the-less can change.

About Agrochemicals
I do not get all my teas routinely tested for agro-chemicals. I am extremely careful about which gardens I source from: tea gardens that are in a diverse, natural environment where there is no need for the use of agro-chemicals and which I am confident are all free of herbicide and pesticide traces.
In recent years anthraquinone in tea has become a talking point. I do not generally test tea for anthraquinone and, whilst I try my best to minimise the potential for it, I do not prioritise that over other factors. You can read more here.
