Wa Long Early Spring 2018 Old Tree Raw Puer 200g cake
Wa Long is one of the villages, along with Man Lin, Me Lian, Man Qian, Ba Zong, Man Zhuang Da Zhai, etc. that makes up the Man Zhuan area: one of the six famous tea mountains.
This tea is from tea trees growing in national forest near Wa Long village. The tea gardens are at altitudes around fourteen to fifteen hundred meters. Because the trees are growing in the forest, the environment is significantly better than many other tea gardens in the area.
Young Wa Long is known for being probably the most 'muscular' of the Man Zhuan teas, which generally start to show their form after 3 or 4 years of storage.
The 'ru kou' is quite bullish, with
some distinct bitterness that quickly transforms to produce a long lasting 'hui gan' and 'sheng jin. The broth is smooth and has some thickness.
Its fragrance is muted, but has notes of forest/grasses/flowers. The 'bei xiang' has hints of honey/flowers/pepper.
The spent leaves are somewhat smaller and finer than typical Wa Long leaves and are pleasingly uniform, and healthy: indicative of a well made tea.
Unless stated otherwise, all my Puer teas are hand picked, fired and rolled. They are then Sun dried. Cakes are stone pressed.
Please be aware that because raw Puer tea is a 'post-fermented' tea it is continually in a process of change: as it ages, but also from season to season and even day to day, so the description here is a snapshot of the teas quality and character, which should not differ significantly, but which none-the-less can change.

About Agrochemicals
I do not get all my teas routinely tested for agro-chemicals. I am extremely careful about which gardens I source from: tea gardens that are in a diverse, natural environment where there is no need for the use of agro-chemicals and which I am confident are all free of herbicide and pesticide traces.
In recent years anthraquinone in tea has become a talking point. I do not generally test tea for anthraquinone and, whilst I try my best to minimise the potential for it, I do not prioritise that over other factors. You can read more here.
